February

The Punch Drunk Comedy Team arranged a charity boxing competition, hosted by Rhod Gilbert, at Blyth Sports Centre. 800 people bought tickets.

 

March

The Blyth Tall Ship project featured on ITV Robson Green's "Further Tales from Northumberland"

 

April

Blyth was honoured by a Royal visitor. Sophie, Countess of Wessex accompanied by the Duchess of Northumberland, renamed the Blyth Tall Ship as Williams II and then attended a party at the Isabella Community Centre in commemoration of the Queen's 90th birthday

 

The 101st (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery marched through the streets of Blyth on April 30th to receive the county’s highest civic honour.

The German city of Solingen, twinned with Blyth since 1962, took this special relationship a step further by inaugurating a dedicated ‘Blyth Room’ in its town hall.  Twelve members of Blyth Citizen Exchange Group, including representatives of the town and county councils, attended the official naming ceremony on 22 April.  

Paul Lamb and the King Snakes played at the popular Tavern music venue, one of many top acts to have played there this year

T'Pau played at the Phoenix Theatre

Blyth Quayside was the venue for a huge funfair 

 

May

The annual "Blyth Battery Goes to War"  event celebrated the centenery of the Battery and was attended by huge crowds.

 

Meggies Burn site played host to the annual International Kite Festival

June

Scouting for Girls headlined the Northumberland Live Festival on the Links

 

Comedian Reg D Hunter played at the monthly Punch Drunk Comedy gig

The RNLI held their annual Open Day down at the quayside

The Flying Scotsman passed through Newsham and was greeted by huge crowds

A brand-new, much planned for hotel was opened on the quayside

Seaton Delaval Hall played host to the Chilli Festival attracting huge crowds over the weekend

Loads of activities going on in the market place for the Silx Youth Festival

The annual Blyth Town Fair was held featuring the usual fairground rides

The second Skiff built by Blyth Community Rowing Club was launched

 

 

August

Blyth Valley Enterprise Ltd unveiled the unique and innovative prototype pod hoping to create employment and put Blyth even further on the map

Annual Beer and Cider Festival at the Blyth Rugby Club

The spectacular Tall Ships Regatta weekend 

October

Model Railway exhibition was held in St Bede's church hall at Newsham

The annual fireworks display on the quayside proved as spectacular and popular as ever

November

A new snooker venue was opened in the heart of Blyth

 

Annual Christmas lights switch on accompanied by lantern parade and fancy dress competition. The winner had the honour of switching on the lights

December

Christmas market and Fayre in the first weekend of December

The annual St Cuthberts Christmas Tree Festival was a real delight again
