Boosted crowd for Non League Day Fixture
09 September 2013
Blyth Spartans saw a slightly larger crowd than normal with the official 'Non League Day' coming through Croft Park's gates on Saturday. The league fixture against Grantham Town was a lively affair and ended dramatically with a late winning penalty scored by Robbie Dale, who last Tuesday night marked his 350th appearance for the club.
With raffles draws, performances from the U12's at half time along with Pre and post match radio commentary from local station Radio Northumberland, an attendance of 429 came to see Spartans continue their good start to the new campaign.
The away side Grantham took the lead mid way through the first half with a dramatic own goal from Blyth centre back Nathan Buddle, lobbing his own goalkeeper in an attempted clearance. But Spartans fought back in a Spartans-like manor with an equaliser from Dan Maguire just after the hour mark and a 88th minute penalty which was converted by Robbie Dale.
An all round good day for Blyth Spartans with a healthy looking number of people attending, in which they will be hoping to mirror this coming Saturday when they host their first game in the FA Cup, league leaders AFC Fylde.
Get yourself to Croft Park to witness what could be the starting blocks of another famous Blyth Spartans cup run, especially with Newcastle away to Aston Villa, another excuse to get out the house!
