Blyth Spartans appoint Tommy Cassidy as manager
21 December 2011
The vacant manager’s job at Croft Park has been quickly filled by former Gateshead and Newcastle Blue Star boss Tommy Cassidy.
Belfast born Cassidy, who played for Newcastle United and Burnley during his career, takes over from Steve Cuggy who left the club by mutual consent.
"Hopefully he will get us out of the rut we're in," Chairman Tony Platten told BBC Newcastle.
Spartans kick off their festive fixtures against another of Cassidy's former clubs Workington, with a trip to Borough Park on Boxing Day.
