Free Music Festival Confirms Two Chart-Topping Headliners

A fantastic day of free family entertainment returns for its second year at Blyth beach with two chart-topping headline acts.

Northumberland Live has confirmed that chart-toppers Toploader and Doctor and The Medics will headline this year’s festival along with a host of amazing local acts.

The festival at the seaside takes place at the Mermaid car park from noon till 9pm on Saturday 27 June 2015.

Councillor Grant Davey, Leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “Northumberland Live was a huge success last year with five thousand visitors. This is a fabulous free festival for all the family with music, food and entertainment and is a great advert for the county. I hope as many people as possible come along and share a great day out at the Northumberland seaside with their family and friends.”

Toploader had a huge hit with their first album, Onka's Big Moka, which was released in 2000. It sold over one million copies and remained in the Top 5 of the UK Albums Chart for over six months. They were the last British band to play the original Wembley Stadium and their cover of King Harvest's US hit ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ became a global success for the band.

Singer and keyboard player, Joseph Washbourne, from Toploader said: “This will be our second time playing in Northumberland and we’re really looking forward to it to. Crowds are always amazing in the North East and, coming from a seaside town ourselves, it’ll be like home from home for us.”

Lead singer, Clive Jackson, aka The Doctor, from Doctor and the Medics, said: “It is going to be a brilliant day out and a chance to get people of all ages dancing and singing along to songs like Spirit in the Sky. People in Northumberland are so friendly and we can’t wait to get the summer festival vibe going at Blyth.”

Local bands will also share the bill and a talent contest will be launched offering musicians from Northumberland a chance to perform on the big stage alongside the headliners. Last year’s over 18’s winner, Joe Allan from Cramlington, said: “Winning the competition has really helped me on my way and I can’t wait to come back and be a judge at the 2015 competition.”

As well as the music there is also going to be street theatre to keep children (and their parents) entertained.  And locally-based food suppliers will showcase the best local Northumberland produce.

All this and more, with the spectacular backdrop of the north east coastline and golden sands just yards away.

Free parking will be available in the centre of Blyth, Blyth Quayside or the Ranch car park, and there will also be a free park and ride service on dedicated buses. Northumberland County Council is encouraging people to leave the car at home and use public transport or make their way to the festival under their own steam - on foot or by bike.
